Zixi Zuo (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the Department of Education Practice and Society at University College London. Employing a feminist perspective, her ethnographic research investigates the young people’s practices of intimacy and formation of their gendered and sexual subjectivities in the post-socialist Chinese context. The purpose of the research is to rethink the normative discourses and everyday practices of young people to understand the operations of institutionalized heteronormativity and young adulthood. Her research interests include youth culture, sexuality education, intimacy, intersectionality, and digital feminism. She previously obtained her Master’s degree in Education at the Institute of Education (University College London) in 2018.
Her recent project uses critical discourse analysis to explore the Love and Relationship Psychology Workshops (aiqing xinlixue) in Chinese universities, which were designed to solve relationship problems and improve young university students’ ability to love.
