Join the Centre for Sociology of Education and Equity (CSEE) and Feminist Educational Engagement Lab (FEEL) for an event about feminism and media in the era of #MeToo on March 12th, 1-3pm, room W3.01, UCL Institute of Education (20 Bedford Way).
The event, #MeToo: Where are we now? Everyday sexism and antifeminism in mainstream media, will be composed of three talks with tea and coffee then a book launch.
The first paper will be presented by Professor Andrea L. Press (Professor of Media Studies and Sociology, University of Virginia, USA): “Media-Ready Feminism and Everyday Sexism”.
The second paper will be presented by Doctor Camilla Møhring Reestorff (Associate Professor, School of Communication and Culture, Scandinavian Studies, Aarhus University, Denmark): “The Governing of Affect in Crowd Ecologies: Backlashes Against the #MeToo-movement in the Danish News Media”.
The last paper will be presented by Doctor Kaitlynn Mendes (Leicester University) and Professor Jessica Ringrose (UCL Institute of Education): “The challenges of doing Digital Feminist Activism in a #MeToo era”.
We will then launch Kaitlynn Mendes, Jessica Ringrose, and Jessalynn Keller’s new book titled Digital Feminist Activism: Girls and Women Fight Back Against Rape Culture (more information here).
